What is life asking me to surrender today?
Why does it feel so hard to surrender to it?
I'm a control freak.
So are you.
So is everyone else.
It's human nature.
We crave control.
Without it we become anxious and depressed.
One of the brain's main jobs is to reduce uncertainty, keeping us safe by making life feel predictable.
But this drive for control can backfire. We can become desperate and struggle for control.
I came across this prompt from David Spinks on Substack:

What is life asking me to surrender today?
Why does it feel so hard to surrender to it?
That question stuck with me.
So for the last week I've been thinking about why it's important to answer this question regularly — either daily, weekly or monthly — and here is 1 reason why:
One of the most important lessons of life is simple:
We can't control everything. So only focus on what you can.
Most people struggle to accept this. But they still try. They'll struggle and fight to get control. And when they don't get it they end up depressed and defeated.
We all have our own sphere of control that we can influence. Sometimes you can get fooled into thinking something is in your sphere of control, even though life is trying to show you that it isn't.
We often become anxious or worried when pursuing a goal, only to feel upset or even defeated when things don’t go as planned. This happens because we mistakenly believe the outcome was within our control, even when life is clearly showing us otherwise.
Striving for control is wired into us.
But the truth is, we can’t control everything, and fighting that reality can only lead to frustration and defeat.
By regularly journalling on this week's prompt you can begin to let go of what’s beyond your reach and focus on what truly matters.
Surrendering isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom.
And in that act of letting go, you'll discover the freedom to focus on what truly matters.
