The Simple Game That Can Improve Your Mental and Physical Health
Rumi once said "Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life."
He wasn't wrong.
Modern science is proving him right.
Various studies have shown how a simple gratitude practice can lead to changes in your mental and physical health.
Regular gratitude practice can:
Improve your mood and reduce anxiety
Strengthen your immune system
Increase emotional resilience
Boost confidence
Increase focus
Improve sleep
Reduce stress
And may even reduce pain.
That's a long list for something so simple. And that's not even all the benefits!
To make it even better, you don't even have to do the practice every day. Even doing it every few days
This week's prompt can help you reap all those benefits.
I came across this week's prompt in Dr Rangan Chatterjee's weekly newsletter, Friday Five.
At the end of each day he plays the gratitude game with his family.
It's a series of questions that help you focus on the positives from the day.
Here they are:
What have you done today to make yourself happy?
What have you done today to make someone else happy?
What has someone else done today to make you happy?
How did you feel when you made someone else happy?
What have you learned today?
You don't necessarily need to answer them with others. But these questions work just as well as a 5 minute journalling exercise to help you gain the benefits of gratitude.
Try it out and let me know how you find it.
