This Prompt Can Help You Figure Out What You Truly Want In Life
Have you ever paused to ask yourself:
'What do I truly want in life?'
Last week's prompt helped to make sure you stayed on course.
But what if you didn't know where you wanted to go in the first place.
This week's prompt will help guide you to the answers.
Welcome to The Kaizen Club newsletter.
Each week we'll be sharing one journalling prompt to help you unlock your potential.
This week's prompt comes from a study into the health benefits of writing about life goals.
Psychologist Laura King asked participants to write about one of four topics:
Their most traumatic life event
Their best possible future self
Both of these topics
A nonemotional control topic
After 4 weeks of answering this week's prompt (Their best possible self), the participants experienced a big boost in how happy they felt.
But that wasn't all...
6 months later, after analysing the health data of all the groups, this prompt group was healthier than the others.
So what was the prompt?
Think about your life in the future. Imagine that everything has gone as well as it possibly could. You have worked hard and succeeded at accomplishing all of your life goals. Think of this as the realization of all of your life dreams. Now, write about what you imagined. (King, 2001).
Writing about your best future allows you to get more clarity on what you want in life.
Making it more clear allows you to:
Identify your life values
Set goals that move you to the best future
Makes it more possible you will get close to it
Answering the prompt helps to create a compass that guides you to where you want to end up in life.
So if you need help answering 'What do I truly want in life?' , try answering this week's prompt.
