One Question to Help You Build Habits Without Struggling

One Question to Help You Build Habits Without Struggling

81% of people fail to stick to their New Year's Resolution.

Become part of the 19% who succeed by answering this week's prompt.

Most people start a new habit at a higher intensity than they need to, making it hard to build consistency.

Instead, when building a new habit focus on doing less than you think you can.

Focus on making it easy to help you build consistency.

Welcome to The Kaizen Club newsletter

Each week we'll be sharing one journalling prompt to help you unlock your potential.

This week's prompt from James Clear can help make building a new habit easy.

If you're not familiar with James, he's the author of the best-selling book Atomic Habits.

Atomic Habits has sold over 15 million copies worldwide and has made James a world-renowned habits expert.

James' advice for anyone looking to start a habit is to scale it down as small as possible.

To help you do this he recommends asking yourself:

What is the 2-minute version of the habit I'm trying to build?

One way I've used this prompt is to build a reading habit.

Instead of focusing on trying to read for 30 minutes a day, I aim to read one page a day.

With this mindset I've been reading every day for 14 weeks so far!

Here's why James says it works:

"People often think it’s weird to get hyped about reading one page or meditating for one minute or making one sales call. But the point is not to do one thing. The point is to master the habit of showing up. The truth is, a habit must be established before it can be improved. If you can’t learn the basic skill of showing up, then you have little hope of mastering the finer details."

By making the habit easy, you're more likely to do it.

Which can make you more consistent.

Once you're consistent with the 2 minute version, you can slowly increase the intensity over time.

Take 5 minutes this week to think about a habit you're trying to build.

What's the 2 minute version of it?

Can you start doing it this week?

Let me know how you get on by replying to this email.
