The Bottleneck Analysis:

2 questions to help you achieve your goals faster

Do you ever feel stuck or can't seem to improve at something?

This week's journal prompt gives you an easy but powerful way to break through.

Welcome to The Kaizen Club newsletter.

Each week we'll share one journal prompt to help you grow.

The road to achieving goals is rarely straight - there are lots of obstacles that can slow you down or stop your progress.

But what if you had a tool to identify and get rid of those obstacles?

This week's prompt comes from Dickie Bush.

He's an entrepreneur and writer whose "Bottleneck Analysis" journaling prompt was one of the top 10 prompts that accelerated his progress after 1,000 consecutive days of journaling.

You can check out the rest of the prompts he used here.

The Bottleneck Analysis helps by making you focus on, like it's name says, the bottlenecks.

A bottleneck is something that slows a process down.

You can make everything before and after the bottleneck faster, but the process will still rely on the speed of the bottleneck.

For example, Imagine you have a bottle filled with water.

No matter how big the bottle, the maximum amount of water that comes out at a time will always rely on the size of the bottleneck.

By changing the size of the bottleneck, you can change the speed of the water

The Bottleneck Analysis questions helps you figure out 2 things:

  1. You identify bottlenecks stopping or slowing down your progress towards a goal.

  2. You figure out ways to remove the bottlenecks

Want to give The Bottleneck Analysis a try?

Just set a timer for 30 minutes and answer these 2 questions:

1. What's the most important thing holding me back from achieving X?

2. Why aren't I working on that?

I'm planning on using this prompt to help me work towards my goal to lose weight. It's something I've struggled with many times in the past.

This weekend I'm planning to spend time answering these questions and seeing where it leads me.

Try it yourself.

Pick a goal and see where the answers to the Bottleneck Analysis lead you.

Thank you for being part of The Kaizen Club.
