Are You Allowing the Things You Prayed For to Become the Things You Complain About?
Hey guys,
Welcome back to another issue.
It's been a busy week, so I had to delay the issue by a day so I could complete it. But I think you'll find this week's issue insightful. This week's prompt is another one for you to add to the collection of gratitude prompts.
Check it out and let me know what you think by replying to the email or commenting on the website.
"I asked for this!" I thought.
"So why am I complaining about it?"
I'd always wanted to be fit enough to be able to play with my child when they got old enough. So why was I complaining to myself when she was pulling me from the sofa to play.
So often in life, we start to take for granted the things we prayed and worked hard for.
We get caught up in the day-to-day and start to forget the blessings we once longed for. We become ungrateful and replace gratitude with complaints.
I'm guilty of this.
I realised this when I came across a prompt from Sahil Bloom this week.
It made me reflect on the aspects of my life that I’d once longed for but had now started to take for granted.
The question Sahil posed was simple but powerful:
Are you allowing the things you prayed for to become the things you complain about?
It's important to regularly reflect on this question — whether it's daily, weekly or even monthly — so you can catch yourself when you complain.
When I reflected on my frustration with being pulled off the couch, I remembered the promise I made to my daughter the first time I held her — to always be there and play with her. That simple shift reminded me how blessed I am to have a healthy, active child and the ability to keep up with her.
This small act of reflection shifted my mindset entirely, helping me trade complaints for gratitude. And the more I thought about it, the more I realised how powerful this question could be.
When you reflect on it regularly, it has 3 benefits:
1. Removes negative thinking
Complaints create a pattern of negativity that clouds your perspective.
Reflection helps break that cycle.
2. Remind yourself of your growth
It’s easy to forget how far you’ve come. Reflection allows you to celebrate progress and acknowledge your hard work.
3. Refreshes your gratitude
When you recognise that you’re living in the answer to a past prayer, it shifts your mindset from frustration to fulfillment.
Each of these benefits helps to shift your perspective and bring clarity to your life.
So why not pause for a moment today reflect on what you’ve achieved and express gratitude for it.
You might just find that the things you once wished for are already here.
Don’t let them become the things you take for granted.
Have a great week.
Until next time,
Shoaib.
